What is Executive Coaching?

Executive Coaching involves a series of one-to-one interactions between a leader (manager or executive) and an external coach, aimed at unlocking the leader’s potential to maximize their own performance. The executive coach facilitates a conversation, during which the coachee explores pertinent topics such as:

  • Self-awareness
  • Interpersonal relationships, listening skills and empathy
  • Influence
  • Work-life balance
  • Dealing with stress
  • Leading during times of change
  • Communication skills
  • Motivation and engagement and leading with vision and purpose
  • Building effective teams
  • Strategy and strategic thinking

The goal of Executive Coaching is to equip the leader with the knowledge and opportunities they need to take responsibility for their current situation and create something more meaningful. This is achieved by the executive coach supporting the coachee in establishing their own goals and realistic success criteria to achieve them.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring follows a similar format to Executive Coaching, adopting a series of one-to-one interactions. This time an experienced and trusted subject matter expert (SME) acts as an advisor, guiding and supporting a less experienced or knowledgeable person, known as a mentee. This relationship is built on mutual respect, communication, and commitment to the mentee’s personal and professional development. Mentors provide advice, share knowledge and experiences, facilitate networking, and offer constructive feedback to help mentees navigate challenges, achieve goals, and make informed decisions in areas such as:

  • Career development
  • Skill enhancement
  • Networking
  • Goal setting and achievement
  • Decision making
  • Problem solving
  • Handling conflicts
  • Work-life balance
  • Leadership development
  • Resilience and stress management

The goal of mentoring is to gift experience and wisdom, detail the choices the mentor would make in your situation, introduce you to new concepts, technologies, processes, and people that can assist you and further you in your career. But as a mentee you can choose whether you take this advice, whether you follow this guidance.

My Coaching and Mentoring Approach

My approach has been honed through experience, qualification, and accreditation. I am a qualified Executive Coach with the Academy of Executive Coaching (AoEC). I am an accredited coach at Practitioner level with the European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC) – my EMCC profile. I follow the same approach for both Executive Coaching and Mentoring: 6 x 1-hour sessions at two week intervals. However, everyone is on their own journey and has different challenges and opportunities, so this approach is flexible.

6 hours / 12 weeks of coaching provides sufficient time and flexibility to truly make a difference. There is enough time to explore, establish goals, create actions, and most importantly, follow through on your actions to unlock your true potential. The following illustrates how 2 x 6-hour blocks of coaching works:

1. Chemistry Session (free, 15 mins)

The chemistry session is a free, 15 minute, no commitment call to establish if we are compatible, discuss if coaching and/or mentoring is the right option for you, and answer any questions you may have. You usually know within a few minutes if you would be happy opening up to somebody, and sometimes discussing sensitive, typically private topics. You need this level of confidence and openness to maximize the benefit of the sessions.

2. Foundation Session #1 (1h 15 mins)

The first session is the Foundation Session and is slightly longer at 1 hour and 15 minutes. During the first fifteen minutes we set the foundation for the following sessions, before starting to explore the topics you have brought for coaching. The remainder of the session represents the first coaching/mentoring session.

3. Session #2 - #5 (1h each)

Sessions #2 to #5 are typical sessions. We continue to explore your topics, establish goals, establish actions and review the actions from the previous session.

4. Session #6 - Includes Mid Review (1h)

Session #6 starts as a typical session, where we review the actions from the previous session. However, we then look back at the journey so far, explore both progress and challenges, and decide if there is value in continuing to sessions #7 – #12. The session finishes by establishing actions.

5. Sessions #7 - #12 - Includes End Review (1h each)

Sessions #7 to #12 are typical sessions. We continue to explore your topics, establish goals, establish actions and review the actions from the previous session. However, for session #12, we also look back at the journey so far, explore both progress and challenges, and decide what any next steps should be. The session typically finishes by establishing actions.

Executive Coaching and Mentoring Services

Virtual coaching and mentoring, using commonplace videoconferencing software, is flexible, and versatile. There is no need to spend time travelling to physically meet a coach, so virtual coaching and mentoring can sit alongside your normal working activities.

Virtual Executive Coaching and Mentoring works best when you complete 12 x 1-hour sessions at two week intervals. However, this isn’t always practical for everyone, so I offer more flexible Executive Coaching and Mentoring services to suit your needs.

Whilst i don’t offer face-to-face sessions as a standard service, please contact me to discuss your specific requirements and I will try to accommodate them.

6 Hours Virtual Coaching

6 x 1-hour virtual sessions aligns  with my coaching approach, and the mid and end continuation reviews. If you are truly looking to unlock your potential, this is the perfect choice.

More Details

6 Hours Virtual Coaching is a commitment to your personal development and includes 6 x 1-hour sessions, at two-week intervals. During each session we explore your topics, establish goals, establish actions, and review the actions from the previous session.

If this is our first engagement, Session #1 will be a Foundation Session and will last 1h 15 mins.

During Session #6 we look back at the journey so far, explore both progress and challenges, and decide what next steps would be beneficial.

Please note: 6 Hours Virtual Coaching is paid in advance. Sessions are forfeited if they need to be rescheduled or cancelled within 24 hours of the session booking.

Ad hoc Virtual Coaching

On their own, 1-hour ad hoc sessions add little value. However, they are perfect if you have followed my coaching approach and feel a quick re-alignment would be beneficial.

More Details

Typically, coachees follow a 12 or 6 week journey either with myself or another coach. After these sessions, over time, it is common to start to deviate from your path. Ad hoc Virtual Coaching can help to re-align, and create focus.

In isolation, however, Ad hoc Virtual Coaching adds little value. There is no context to frame the conversation, there is no journey to surround the session, and there is no accountability to complete your actions.

Please note:  Ad hoc Virtual Coaching is paid in advance. Sessions are forfeited if they need to be rescheduled or cancelled within 24 hours of the session booking.

Corporate Virtual Coaching

Corporate engagements are tailored to meet your specific organisational needs, based on number of coachees and alignment with internal professional development practices.

More Details

Corporate Virtual Coaching enables organisations to invest in their employees through professional, leadership development and support. Although my Coaching Approach is recommended, each corporate engagement is designed specifically to meet the needs of the organisation, and the number, duration and frequency of sessions can be defined.

Each coachee follows their own, confidential journey, through which they can unlock their true potential and enhance the wider organisation.

Please note: Sessions are forfeited if they need to be rescheduled or cancelled within 24 hours of the session booking.
